HILARIOUS AND FUNNY MEDICAL STORIES | PART 1

Medically speaking, urethral sounding refers to inserting an object like a catheter, optical cable, or similar instruments into the urethra for urological surgery. The process helps to dilate inside strictures to provide access through the urethra and to the bladder. Medical experts use sterile metal or plastic dilators in this process.

According to urologists, the following are some of the disturbing cases of persons who inserted certain peculiar objects into their bladder through the urethra and came to the trauma center for their removal. We will also address the hazards of inserting objects into the urethra. Finally, in case you must do it, even though it is never suggested in all circumstances, we will show you how to do it properly to avoid visiting a trauma center in an emergency.

1. Lady with a Necklace:

The first tale concerns a lady who was accompanying her spouse on a date outstation. She was wearing a very small vibrator around her neck in a necklace giving her ease of use in time of need. While lying down intimately they played with the device but during playing with it they misplaced it and it was lost. However, she was feeling it in her belly, vibrating. Then they came to the trauma center, where the doctors took her X-rays and discovered that the vibrator was visible in the X-ray. As a result, they had to get it removed through surgery. They couldn't remove it without surgery since it had been overturned the opposite way. All of this occurred while they were playing with it but the vibrator was very thin with a width of perhaps less than a quarter of an inch, and most likely it entered into the bladder passing through the urethra. It's impossible to establish if it all happened accidentally or intentionally.  (@ chhanno blogspot com 02012022)

2. Phone Charger Cable:

It's an Indian man. He went to the healthcare physicians and informed them that he had eaten some earbuds. As a result, the physicians kept him under observation and waited to expect the earbuds would pass through his stool. Some purgatives were also given to him, but they didn’t prove successful and the man was still complaining of pain. Doctors next performed his colon endoscopy. It is a method of looking down inside of the large intestine using a fiber optic cable and a small camera attached to it. They were still unable to locate anything strange over there. Finally, they took his abdominal X-ray which revealed the true situation. He had placed a cell phone cable into his bladder through the urethra. It had coiled up and trapped over there. As a result, he had to undergo a surgical procedure to get it removed. This all took longer since that man was ashamed to inform the physicians what he had done.

It is critical to remember that you should tell your healthcare physician everything that happened to you or committed by you or you know about it and it concerns your problem despite how humiliated you feel about telling it. You may be adding to the problem by not telling the physician what you have done. You must inform your doctor so that he can assist you. You must trust him because he will neither disgrace nor humiliate, nor criticize but simply look after you.

There is another similar account of a high school student who was conducting some experiments. He withdrew a mobile phone charging cable and put it in his urethra, where it was entangled within the bladder. In the trauma center, the surgeons succeeded to pull it out without his visiting the OT by using lubricating agents and cautious handling, avoiding medical procedures.

3. Magnetic Metal Beads:

Another account has been published in various journals. It describes a guy responsible for placing small metal beads which were also magnetic, inside his urethra. He continued placing these metal beads in his pee hole until he placed nearly 40 or 50 droplets in his urethra but when he attempted to withdraw them he realized that it was not possible since they were attracted to one another forming a magnetized cluster in the bladder. Since it was a very difficult instance for a specialist doctor, it was reported in the medical literature. There are nearly fifteen more similar instances found in medical journals wherein people got small magnetic steal beads trapped in their bladder or urethra. It’s quite a challenging situation for a specialist doctor since each steal bead is required to be removed separately and not all at once. Being a steal magnet they are strongly attracted to one another. In the bladder, they can form a large cluster of magnetic beads and cannot be pulled out as they did with the above-mentioned guy. Thus, it's quite difficult when a similar object is trapped in the bladder or urethra. To reach the bladder, an incision in the abdomen may be required. Furthermore, in such a case, it may become necessary sometimes to insert a camera into the urethra or to make a cut into the perineum which means the region between the anus and scrotum, for reaching the device that might have been stuck in the bladder.

4. Urethral Sounding, The Reasons:

The most common causes people put certain objects in their urethra is to gain a kind of enjoyment associated with sex. Psychological excitement may also be involved while they insert an object into the urethra however in all cases they are enjoying this practice. You might be thinking how normal this is. The answer is in the following two main studies on this topic. In one study nearly two thousand males took part. They had been having sexual interactions only with guys. They were asked about their interest in putting anything in their urethra ever in life. It was discovered that nearly ten percent of those men had attempted urethral sounding in the past. In another research, nearly four hundred guys were examined who had done body piercing of their genitalia and had sexual relations with either females or males or both. It was discovered that nearly twenty-four percent of the participants had sometimes in the past attempted to put an object in their urethra. A Reddit group is also there with twenty-two thousand members and its topic is about urethral sounding. So it's pretty natural, and individuals utilize a variety of objects, stuff, creams, or liquids for putting them in the urethra.  (@ chhanno blogspot com 02012022)

5. The Dangers:

There are undoubtedly hazards associated with urethral sounding. They include the danger of developing a UTI or bladder infection, which can be caused by any unhygienic impurities placed inside the pee hole. Additionally, if passing a gadget or anything into the pee hole causes severe rubbing of inside tissues it might lead to permanent damage or narrowing of the urethra. A urethral injury or stricture can induce shrinkage of the urethra, which might lead to difficulty peeing after some time. Consequently, you will be having a decreased stream of urine, need to urinate many times in a day, and find it very difficult to get your bladder fully voided and all these things may necessitate more medical procedures in the future. Finally, any object that is placed into the urethra may be trapped there and may have to be removed surgically, which may need another trip to the trauma center.

6. How to do it Safely:

In general, the urethral sounding is not advisable, but if it is to be done under some compulsion or need, it must be done carefully. For this purpose, you must employ urethral sounds or equipment specifically designed for it. These equipment are designed in particular for insertion in the urethra. Their use is harmless since there is a proper system set up to keep them safe from becoming entangled or trapped in the urethra or bladder. Aside from that, you must also confirm and verify that these equipment are disinfected through hot water of not less than 100 degrees Celsius or boiling and afterward insert them only when they are cold enough. You should also use newly manufactured lubes and apply them to this equipment before use. You should not use lubes which have been left open on your bedside table for an extended period since they may have accumulated a large number of germs and microbes. Normally small pack of lubes which are available only for one-time use may be a better option.

Alright, and please take care everywhere and always.

HOW DOES A UROLOGIST EXAMINE A UROLOGY PATIENT?

This article is all about men who go see a urologist for one reason or the other, what they think they are going to face in a urologist’s office, and whether they are embarrassed facing him or otherwise.

Why should you consult a Urologist:

There are many reasons why men have to consult urologists, like urinary problems, some testicular issues, kidneys stones, infections and other ailments, prostate enlargement or malignant prostate, malfunction of erection including various sexual issues or they just need his opinion about their already diagnosed cancerous growth in their genitals, kidneys, bladder, and prostate which a urologist is the most suitable person to elaborate the condition. Blood detected in urine is also a reason why many men consult a urologist to get his opinion and confirm whether anything risky is there.

Sketch of urinary system on the wall behing a man as Urologist perhaps, advising patients.

Why Feel Awkward Seeing a Urologist:

While consulting a urologist the patient explains what the symptoms of his problem are and how he sees it. Now it’s not a woman who experiences periods, maternity, and all such like things since the days she entered adolescence. For a man, it’s perhaps the first time in his life that he is talking to a doctor about his private parts or sexual life and all that. So men sometimes feel quite awkward talking to a urologist and share their genital and sexual problems quite freely with him. However, you may be inspired to know that it’s the job of urologists to handle such cases daily and they feel entirely at ease while conversing and exchanging their views concerning some of your possible disorders. So have confidence in your physicians since they are eager to assist you as far as possible or as far as in their capacity. (@ chhanno blogspot com 31102021).

Physical Examination by a Urologist:

Following a conversation with you, the urologist will examine you physically for the basic assessment. He will evaluate for some problem or pain in the kidneys by touching and pressing your back. He will press and explore your abdomen to find out any unusual lump of hard flesh and an exceptionally full bladder. Also, he will examine your genitals to assess whether anything unusual is there like plaques, lumps, injuries and any other thing ignored by you or not noticed by you or you may feel awkward and humiliated to talk about. He will check out the urinary meatus and stroke the shaft to find out any problems or disorders. He will also check the testicles and scrotum to find out any lump or unusual things therein.

Another thing to do ordinarily is the digital rectal test. Through this test, the urologist evaluates the size, any lumps, injuries, or softness of the prostate which might be an indication of some infectious disease, and is done basically by way of the rectum by tapping and feeling the prostate gland. There are some other clinical examinations that a urologist might do but considering the purpose for which you came to him certain specific checkups are incorporated while some others are excluded from the urological examination. However, these are the main examinations mentioned above that are done by a urologist.  (@ chhanno blogspot com 31102021).

Diagnosis and Treatment by a Urologist:

When all the necessary and important tests are completed the patient is informed about the diagnosis of the problem and in view, thereof the matter is discussed with him about what may be the choices of its treatment. So you should visit the urologist with clarity of mind about the objectives of the visit. In case your main objective is just screening and checkup that’s quite simple and obvious. However, in case you want to consult the urologist for certain issues relating to your kidneys, bladder, or prostate or things like that concerning urology and need regular treatment and it’s your main objective to get it treated; for instance, your objective is to get treatment for your nocturia, which means frequently waking up at night to urinate please ensure to intimate your urologist about it since it can be troublesome for him if he is not aware of your objective of the visit. Occasionally there can be many distinct issues to be addressed and the urologist intends to be certain that he is treating the problem which is your priority and for which you have paid a visit to him.

That’s it for now. God bless you and take care everywhere and always.

BLOOD IN URINE (HEMATURIA) | SYMPTOMS, CAUSES AND TREATMENT:

What is hematuria and what are its causes:

When there is blood in the urine, gross or microscopic, it is called hematuria and it has many reasons. Mainly blood comes from the kidneys, bladder or the tubes urine passes through and mixes in the urine. It may come out of the kidney parenchyma itself because of some kidney disease that is innate to the kidney and may cause bleeding. Its reason may be a tumor or stones in the kidney. Any type of defect in the ureters due to stones, an obstacle, cancer, or such things can also be a reason. Ureters are the tubes that drain the kidneys by carrying urine to the bladder. It can also be because of a lump or tumor or a stone in the bladder or some abnormality in the urethra which may have so many other reasons. It happens frequently due to prostate problems in male patients and possibly atrophy etc., in ladies. In hematuria, the bad stuff is required to be precluded first. During a check, we do not want to ignore things like a kidney stone or bladder stone and cancer in any case therefore we preclude such things first since those can eventually create bigger complications.

How hematuria is diagnosed:

Depiction of kidney, ureter and bladder in the body with two samples of urine indicating microscopic and gross Hematuria

When a patient comes to the hospital with a complaint of hematuria he or she has to undergo many tests. The first one is the CT Urogram in which the CAT scan of the pelvis and abdomen is done. Firstly kidneys are scanned to check whether any tumors are there. This scan is done with contrast as well as without contrast. The content draining from the kidneys is then scanned to check if there are any irregularities in the tubes called ureters. A partial bladder scan is also done since it is not completely visible on the CT scan. In male patients, the prostate is scanned for its size. CT scan of different organs that may be squeezing the bladder physically is also done. As the bladder is only partially visible on a CAT scan, therefore, its cystoscopy test is done and which means examining the inside of bladder walls with a very small camera through the urethra which is quite an effective method to look at bladder tumors. It’s done on priority to find out any possible bladder cancer. To preclude any infection a normal urine test as well as urine culture test is likewise done since it tells us additional details concerning ureters as some specific sorts of tissue cells could be detected through it and may help diagnose the real cause. Hematuria patients are normally sent for a checkup to a urologist but in case there is a doubt of some kidney disease he has to go to a nephrologist. (@ chhanno blogspot com 25102021)

What is nephroptosis:

A diagram explaining the condition of Nephroptosis in which the kidney drops down from its natural position in the body.

Blood in the urine may also be due to nephroptosis which is a very uncommon situation that seldom happens. Nephroptosis is a downward misplacement of the kidney for 5 cm or more than its actual position when you stand up. It causes various painful indications viz., “Dietl’s crisis” which may cause a fierce, colicky, intermittent, flank pain on one side which is truly acute just like kidney pain when there’s a stone in the kidney. Other symptoms that a patient may suffer include vomiting, nausea, and chills. The pulse of the patients may also go fast. Their urine may decrease occasionally and it may contain blood or protein.

The blood in the urine in such cases has possibly certain reasons for example the renal vein may get tightly strained causing a little bleeding from the kidney itself or a blockage in the ureter may be the reason. Bleeding may also occur due to displacement and drop down of the kidney from its original position since it crimps the ureter. The patient with nephroptosis feels pain due to the obstruction in the crimped ureter. Stretching down of body tissues holding the kidney in place may also cause pain and uneasiness. Further, due to pressure on the artery of the kidney, the flow of blood toward the kidney decreases which results in pain.

Treatment of nephroptosis:

Such a condition is treated by securing the kidney up into its correct position. Historically this condition was treated conservatively by using abdominal binders called corsets and these were usually used on the right side by slim ladies. In seventy percent of events, it is used on the right side. Corsets were typically used by people in the early nineteenth century. It was the most ordinary medical procedure performed by urologists during the last years of the nineteenth millennium and afterward, it went obsolete. The treatment of this condition with corsets was not successful at all since this medical procedure was done quite ordinarily without a high degree of precision. It was performed for many symptoms that were not nephroptosis thus the post-procedure results were just unsatisfactory for patients since what was being treated was in oblivion and therefore it became obsolete.

Presently it’s incredibly uncommon however you must have a serious level of doubt. The diagnosis of this condition requires a scan in a sitting position as well as a lying position which is not done ordinarily. So whenever you come across such a situation you must want to get this type of scanning for analyzing it. In modern times it’s treated through laparoscopy which is quite a simple procedure in which a very small incision is made and patients have quite a speedy recovery as compared to the nineteenth-millennium era.

Alright, God bless you all. Stay safe everywhere and always.

WHAT'S NORMAL URINE COLOR AND WHAT'S ABNORMAL?

Did you have sometimes a question in your mind about the colors of urine and precisely what each color indicates and what color is normal and what’s abnormal? In case you see abnormal color when is the proper time to consult a primary health care physician or urologist? Let’s see it in detail.

Urine normally comprises ninety-five percent water and five percent various salts or different electrolytes for example sodium, chloride, creatinine, urea, and other such things. That five percent also contains other specific compounds which make the yellow color of the urine. The typical pee tone is yellow. We shall now discuss here the various tones or shades of urine that are usually seen.

1. Clear Urine. When urine has nearly no color and is clear that indicates excessive hydration and there is nothing to worry about if it is occasional. However continuous excessive hydration can put you to the unevenness of electrolytes which may indicate high sodium levels in the blood etc. and is required to be lessened but it may sometimes create serious issues. In that case, you need to reduce your drinking water. If you think your urine is still clear despite lowering your water intake, please investigate what else is happening to you. (@ chhanno blogspot com 13102021)

2. Yellow Urine. Yellow is the typical shade of pee yet there's a range of yellow colors. The ideal shade of urine color may be described as light pale lemonade yellow. If you have that shade of your urine it implied that your water intake is perfect, and your urine is stable, transparent, and not very much condensed. If your water or liquid intake is not sufficient it causes highly condensed urine and turns it into dull yellow or golden shading. Therefore please drink more water and other liquids. Ordinarily drinking straight water is a good choice but you can take other liquids also like juice or coffee etc., to enhance water intake. Sweet beverages or juices have their disadvantages or side effects on your well-being which may please be kept in view while choosing your water intake.

3. Orange Urine. The orange tone of urine is a result of taking some specific medicines. For example, the medicine Pyridium is used by some individuals frequently to treat a burning sensation while urinating. This medicine may change the pee color to orange. It can stain the clothing or undergarments if spilled on by accident. Similarly, certain medicines for example Sulfasalazine and some purgatives having the ingredient Senna can also turn the color of urine to orange. So in case, your pee color gets a shade of orange it may be a result of these types of medicines. Likewise, the color of your pee may turn orange if you take a diet that's color is orange and contains beta-carotene say carrots. In all such cases please drink a ton of water and check whether your pee goes normal or not. One may be worried about his or her pee color however it isn’t so frightening if it’s orange color. Urine color also turns to orange when it is highly condensed which may be due to dehydration and can likewise be normalized by drinking more and more water.

4. Red Urine. This shade of color is generally considered to be a result of only blood however there are certain foods and some medicines also which may cause this shade of pee. These foods comprise beets and blackberries etc., while some medicines prescribed for the treatment of tuberculosis are responsible to turn the color of pee as well as eyes into the red. In such a case please drink bunches of water and other liquids to eliminate the red shade in the urine that has turned so after you had eaten such foods or taken such medicines. If it makes no difference then please go see your primary healthcare physician since there may be something serious.

In case blood is suspected in the urine then the following 2 confirmations are required; 1) is it surely blood? and 2) is it hematuria? and these further require laboratory examination and urine culture to evaluate whether it is blood or an indication of infection. In addition to the laboratory examination, it is also suggested sometimes to CAT scan the urinary tract to evaluate any malignant growth or kidney stone, or irregularities in the ureters. Another test is “cystoscopy” wherein a little camera is inserted through the urethra and any growths, masses, stones, or other irregularities are viewed both in the bladder and prostate that may be creating problems like blood in the urine. A blood test called the PSA test which stands for Prostate Specific Antigen test is also done to check for a malignant growth in the prostate. All these tests confirm to a great extent what is the main reason for red urine you should be worried about. Nothing extraordinary is found in more or less eighty-five percent of patients which is quite normal however for the sake of the rest of the patients complete examination should be done to confirm any malignant growth, stones, or any other anomaly causing blood in the pee. In case there is any old blood in the pee, the color will be brown in shade.

Finally, extensive workouts, extremely long-range running, weight lifting, or exceptionally hard work can cause Rhabdomyolysis which means that your muscles and fibers have got broken and created an extremely critical condition. You might feel a great deal of fatigue and pain in the body and your pee may also turn to brown color which is a critical issue. You certainly want to get to a trauma center in such a situation since immediate treatment is to be initiated essentially by a physician to guarantee to safeguard your kidneys because it tends to be quite harmful to the kidneys in case left unattended. (@ chhanno blogspot com 13102021)

5. Brown Urine. The urine of brown color which is somewhat similar to coke might be due to kidney infection and liver infection. Overdose of certain medicines makes the color of pee brown in shade. There may also be a green and blue shade of urine but it’s simply phenomenal and may be a result of some food varieties and a few drugs or medicines. Beetroot and blueberries are a few examples. It can also happen ordinarily when certain medicines in the category of anesthesia and anti-depressants are used while performing a medical procedure especially in urology but also in other medical procedures.

6. Cloudy Urine. This color of urine is an indication of infection in the urinary tract however this is not the situation in general. There may be some other reasons for it. Simply cloudy and no other symptoms like pain, fever, or uneasiness of the abdomen doesn’t mean that you have an infection except that some more causes or symptoms are present there such as you're generally not a healthy guy or you're pregnant or your immune system is deficient, etc. Treatment of your symptoms is just mandatory however being a typical individual with solid health but cloudy pee without any other exhibiting symptoms of a disease, kindly don't take antibiotics but increase your water or liquid intake as it would assist to normalize the color of your pee.

7. Foamy Urine. If you have a truly hard pee stream you normally make a few air bubbles while urinating but if these are too many it is called foamy urine. There is nothing to worry about if you occasionally see foamy pee but if it continues for a few days, you should consult a physician since it may be an indication of a kidney problem or your urine may contain protein or it may be an indication of some other issue say fistula. Likewise, some bladder disorders may also cause foamy pee.

That’s all as far as various shades of urine color are concerned. I hope it might have been a little bit informative for the readers.

WHAT ARE THE STAGES OF PASSING A KIDNEY STONE?

How to identify the pain of a kidney stone? | Symptoms of kidney stone!

Have you ever seen a patient having severe bursts of back pain or groin pain? Such type of pain may be a result of a twist of the cord to the testicle on its own due to which the testicle gets a reduced flow of blood and that thing results in intermittent pain which means repeated bursts of pain and relief. Some of the times it may cause vomiting and nausea. Furthermore, hernia also causes such pain. When the abdominal wall gets weak and bowels and fat makes their way through, it causes a hernia and that can cause extremely excruciating pain. It is highly uncomfortable for such patients. In such conditions, the patient should be rushed to the trauma center for a complete examination since in both the conditions of testicular twist or hernia there can be emergencies for medical procedures. However, in case the patient looks alright and without any fever, nausea, or vomiting, it may not be anything significant with him.

In case you have kidney stones you may experience one-sided pain in the abdomen. In some rare and uncommon cases, you may also feel pain in the groin or the genitals. A kidney stone ordinarily travels from the kidneys to the bladder through the ureters. During its journey through the ureter, the flow of urine either stops or reduces which is excruciatingly painful. Otherwise, it causes pain due to inflammation of the lining of those organs.

What is the composition of kidney stones? | Causes of kidney stone!

A flash card showing diagram of a cross section of kidney , urinary system and a massage to drink more water.

Kidney stones are formed in your body due to so many reasons. For example, if you take food that contains too many salts, proteins, or oxalate-containing food like spinach or foods with green leaves you may be a dangerously open target to getting kidney stones. Very low water or fluid intake is the main reason for kidney stones. Ensuring to drink tons of water is quite supportive to prevent kidney stones. It can also be related to your family history or genetics.  A diet rich in Vitamin D may be another reason for these stones. If you have an ailment like gastrointestinal bypass surgery in the past such metabolic ailments can be highly risky to get these kidney stones. Anyway, kidney stones have a few compositions. One type of it comprises calcium and that is more common and widely known. The second type of stone contains uric acid. Furthermore, there are Cysteine stones. Certain hereditary abnormalities are responsible for such types of stones under which patients’ bodies are compelled to explicitly make cysteine stones. Also, people who suffer from repeated UTIs tend to form stones called struvite kidney stones.

Can someone pass a kidney stone?

The answer to the above is, yes! of course, they can. However, it is determined by the thickness and breadth of the stone whether someone can pass it or otherwise. Ordinarily, in nearly 80 % of cases, you can pass a kidney stone if the size of the stone is up to 4 millimeters. As long as the stone grows bigger say up to 6 millimeters in size the probability to pass it diminishes to nearly 20 %. The normal time a kidney stone is expelled out of the body by an ordinary patient is quite long and that is approximately one month. (chhanno com 11102021)

When to see a urologist for kidney stone pain? | Tteatment of kidney stone!

There are a couple of justifications to be considered for consulting a physician for an urgent intervention during the passing of a kidney stone. In case of agonizing pain that you cannot endure regardless of what oral medicines you are on that’s the reason for urgent intervention. Similarly, in case you suffer from high-grade fever again that’s the emergency because when the urine is being blocked by the kidney stone and you also suffer from UTI, it can make you get sick extremely fast. Furthermore, in case you are feeling nauseous or cannot eat anything, it’s one more reason for urgent intervention. But in case you feel alright and don’t have too much pain there’s nothing to worry about. Just allow the stone to be expelled by itself. During the time kidney stone is in the body or ureter, drink tons of water and other fluids since it will be helpful a lot. Some medicines like Flomax and Tamsulosin are also prescribed during that time since these can help loosen up the ureter muscles and expel the stone easily.

Emergency interventions in case of infection.

During an emergency, your kidney stone treatment is not carried out simultaneously with some infection that is already active in your body. In such a case a stent is inserted in the ureter to link the kidney and bladder and assists to discharge the urine through that stent or tube. Alternatively, a tube called a nephrostomy tube is inserted in the kidney that passes through the back of the body and assists in discharging urine through that channel. It’s mainly subject to the intensity of your sickness as well as what is the size of the stone or which procedure is suitable for you. However, these are emergency interventions in case you are having an infection.  (chhanno com 11102021).

Take care of your kidneys.

When kidney stones are passing through the ureter they can cause very excruciating pain. When they reach the bladder it’s normally not so painful. This is due to the reason that size of the ureter is smaller than the urethra. So anything that passes through the ureter can pass through the urethra more easily. Ordinarily, it’s not extremely painful when the kidney stone travels in the urethra but at times the pain can be highly excruciating. According to certain individuals, it is more critical than labor pain. Anyhow, kidney stone pain is truly agonizing and simply a shocking encounter to manage. Whenever these patients are in the emergency room they are so helpless and extremely miserable. So if it’s not too much trouble please take care of your kidneys as vigilantly as possible.

Thank you so much for reading this article and please take care everywhere and always.
